Next Gen Ambassador Q&A with Aaron Horsfield
As Director of Print Fulfillment Operations and Marketing Administration within UPMC Insurance Services Division, Co-Director of the International, Insurance Services and Enterprises Administrative Fellowship program at UPMC, and Co-Chair of United Way’s Next Gen, Aaron Horsfield keeps a tight schedule.
Somehow, he still finds the time to prioritize giving back to the community.
Since graduating from the University of Iowa with a Master’s in Healthcare Administration and a Master’s in Public Health Policy, Aaron has dedicated his career and free time to ensuring the well-being of others.
In addition to his work at UPMC, he is an active board member of the Friends of the Flock (National Aviary), GOLD Leadership Group (University of Iowa Center for Advancement), president of Iowa Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership and an advisory board member of Quadient’s Americas CXM Customer Board and EventEvolution Management’s Document Strategy Forum (DSF Conference).
As a result of his amazing work, Aaron was a 2022 Pittsburgh Business Times and Leadership Pittsburgh, Inc. 30 under 30 honoree, one of the 2021 Pittsburgh’s 50 Finest, and a member of the inaugural class of United Way’s ConnectU program. What made you choose United Way as a philanthropic cause you want to support?
Over the last six years, I have continued volunteering for United Way because I’m passionate about understanding our community’s needs, making a direct impact through volunteering and charitable giving, and taking advantage of the many networking opportunities.
One of the core reasons I support United Way is their diligent efforts in vetting programs through the request for proposal process, the impact of PA 211 Southwest, and their commitment to advocating for policy change addressing the root cause of issues impacting UWSWPA’s five-county service area.
As a Next Gen Ambassador, you are required to volunteer, please tell us a little bit about your volunteer experiences.
Growing up, volunteering was a key component of our family life. We volunteered at a local food bank that my grandmother helped coordinate. As I continued through college and graduate school, I volunteered nearly 900 hours at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as well as with multiple hospices focusing on their 11th-hour programs. And I’m starting my 14th year as a volunteer for Iowa Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY), a youth leadership organization.
In Pittsburgh, I have volunteered with multiple organizations, including the National Aviary, March of Dimes and, of course, United Way, where I have participated in countless events. I am excited to continue giving back to the community with United Way through Next Gen and sharing the passion I have with others!
Thank you, Aaron, for your dedication to United Way and your community!
