Building STEAM for Wilkins Library: Join United Way and the PUMP Tag Team
At PUMP, we know the difference that young people can make in the Pittsburgh region. Young people are putting down roots here. They are choosing to stay, move, or return to attend university, advance one’s career, start a family, and more. They are choosing Pittsburgh not just because of how much it has to offer already, but also because they are willing to work to help it fulfill its potential. And one of the best ways to fulfill that potential is by investing in the kids who will shape our future.
That’s why we are excited to partner with United Way to address real needs in our community and make positive change in people’s lives through the very first PUMP Tag Team. The Tag Team is a small, dynamic squad of young professionals that are mobilizing and fundraising to support our community. Our first project is for the students at Wilkins Elementary School in the Woodland Hills School District.
Wilkins Elementary School recently expanded to become Wilkins STEAM Academy for grades Pre-K through 5th. With more students and an expanded STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) curriculum, the school needs new resources for its library. Whether kids dream of becoming engineers or artists, doctors or entrepreneurs, we want them to have the resources and experiences they need to fulfill those dreams.
PUMP’s mission is to make Pittsburgh the most dynamic and diverse place by engaging, education, and mobilizing all young people to create change in our community. Each year, we serve nearly 30,000 individuals, primarily under the age of 40, through civic, social, and recreational programming. Our Advocacy + Public Policy Agenda gives young people a platform to advocate for change. We connect people through the Pittsburgh Sports League, activate them around key policy issues, and elevate community opportunities.
The Tag Team is a new partnership with United Way, offering a way for young professionals to create positive change by transforming the Wilkins STEAM Academy library into an inviting space where kids can be inspired to succeed. The Tag Team’s goal is to raise $15,000 from Feb. 19th-April 3rd by tagging their friends, family, and professional networks into the campaign, inviting hundreds of people to support the kids at Wilkins.
