After taking some time off to raise her family and after pursuing a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Management from the University of Pittsburgh, Nancy Marshall was ready for the second phase of her career – and she was ready to also make a difference in her community.
As she started to navigate her new career as a fiduciary advisor with the PNC Institutional Asset Management group, Nancy began looking for ways to build relationships and impact the nonprofit sector in Pittsburgh. She joined the community outreach board at PNC, where leaders encouraged her to also consider joining United Way’s Women’s Leadership Council.
“It was sort of a ripple effect. Their passion for the WLC and its work inspired me to sign up,” Nancy said.
Nancy joined the WLC in 2015 and quickly got involved as a member of the United Way grants review board. Since then, Nancy has attended speed mentoring events at YWCA, volunteered for the Day of Caring clean up at Mount Ararat Community Center, and she’s organized a group of young women from PNC who served a dinner at Bethlehem Haven. She serves on the WLC engagement committee and also participates in the WLC Step Up Program where she mentors and sponsors a new member.
“The WLC has helped me engage in the community and at the same time elevate my professional profile,” Nancy shared. Nancy’s active participation in the WLC and connections she’s made with her colleagues who are also on the council led to promotions within PNC. Now, as a Vice President and PNC Wealth Management® Relationship Strategist, the WLC continues to serve as an impactful resource.
Nancy encourages other women in the community to consider joining the WLC. “You will get to do meaningful work with some of the most amazing women around the city. I’m humbled to be in the same room as these impressive and inspiring women,” Nancy said.
