ANDREA KRUEGER

Bringing along her network of people to create an impact on the community

Andrea Krueger is a recruiter and talent acquisition consultant for High-Growth Technology and Robotics Organizations. She is a mentor with PA Women Work, a member of the Women’s Leadership Council (WLC) and serves as an advisor to the Executive Director of Plant A Seed, Skylor Massie. Andrea is a connector with a passion for professionally and personally helping people. United Way has countless opportunities for people to get involved. “I was able to transfer my skills to United Way by joining their recruiting committee for events and member drives,” said Andrea.

United Way has been a part of Andrea’s life for as long as she can remember. Her mother was an active volunteer for United Way and would often bring Andrea along with her to help. As a mother, Andrea now brings her eight-year-old daughter to different United Way volunteer opportunities.  Andrea stresses the importance of having a diverse network of friendships with people with different ethnic and socioeconomic statuses to her daughter. “I believe that United Way welcomes everyone to be a part of the organization and allows you to volunteer for projects you specifically care about,” said Andrea.

Andrea and her daughter volunteered for United Way throughout the pandemic. They put together literacy kits for children in Pittsburgh, painted pots that were sent to senior care facilities, and helped deliver supplies to those who needed them. “It is important to me that I support an organization that allows me to bring my family along to help make a difference and United Way makes that happen,” said Andrea.

For the past five years, Andrea has competed in triathlons, a multisport race consisting of swimming, cycling, and running various distances. Andrea has applied her passion for cycling by participating in United Way’s “Build-A-Bike” event, where volunteers help build a bike for people in the community and allows the community member to take home a new bike. A bike is another means of transportation for an individual who doesn’t have a vehicle to get to work or a family who can’t afford to buy their children a bicycle. A bicycle may have been something Andrea took for granted in the past, but events like “Build-A-Bike” continue to allow her to help others with transportation and enjoy the joy of cycling.

United Way allows members to decide for themselves where their payroll deduction donations are contributed. For example, if someone is passionate about a local organization that is in United Way’s network, they can financially dedicate their contributions to that specific organization. They could also split that donation to another cause. “I wanted to support various causes and United Way allowed me to contribute the way I wanted to, said Andrea. Being a part of the Women’s Leadership Council introduces members to different organizations, and volunteer opportunities they can support.
