“If you want to see a change, you have to help make that change.”

When Debbie Hopper and her husband moved to Butler County in 2008, they were expecting their first child and dreaming of their future in a strong family-friendly environment. “Butler County seemed like the perfect place for us to raise our family because of the school district and community-driven events,” she recounts.

More than a decade later, Debbie can’t imagine living anywhere else with her family of five. Her passion for the community grew stronger after becoming a mortgage loan officer at Mars Bank in 2016. “I love that moment at the closing table when my clients get the keys to their home. Whether it’s their dream home or first home, I feel like I am truly helping to better their lives,” she beams.

Shortly after starting at Mars Bank, Debbie discovered United Way through their workplace campaign. “When I first learned of everything United Way does to help the community, I knew it was an organization that I needed to support. Improving the community that I call home is such a big motivator in both my personal and professional life,” she explains.

Ultimately, Debbie became a part of United Way’s Women’s Leadership Council (WLC) in Butler County when she realized that she could be doing even more to help her community. Debbie found a group of wonderful women who share her passion. “I just love being around other like-minded women and helping the community at the same time,” Debbie gushes. “It’s also a great way to show my kids that you can always make time for the things that really matter to you.”

Now a co-chair of the Butler County Women’s Leadership Council, Debbie looks forward to getting even more involved. “I hope that through my work more people will see how easy and rewarding it can be to give back.”

Debbie hopes to help expand United Way’s work through her involvement so one day, even more families love calling Butler County home, just as her family does.
