“Even if you don’t have an excessive amount of time to give, any time offered has an impact on someone.”

Aimee Hernandez, born and raised in the South Hills, grew up believing philanthropy is an important part of everyday life. When she was a child, she’d ask her father, “Why do some people have less and others have so much more?”

This mindset at an early age set Aimee up for the ideology that it’s important to give back in any way. She began her involvement with United Way as a donor through her workplace and officially became a member of the Women’s Leadership Council (WLC) this past year.

“I grew up on the mentality from Luke 12:48 that, ‘To whom much is given, from him much is expected,’” she commented. “This is the example I want to set for my children and for the community. We all have something to give: a talent, wealth, or even time.”

As a female entrepreneur, Aimee joined the WLC to be surrounded by a group of energetic women who understand how rewarding it is to give back to the community. “It’s great to work with such influential women, many of whom have hectic schedules but still find time to be great role models to others,” she reflected.

In addition to being a full-time mother and business owner, Aimee is a huge advocate for children’s rights. Aimee’s grandparents immigrated to the United States from Argentina and Mexico. This family history feeds her and her husband’s passion to help underprivileged children — from refugees, to children in Pittsburgh who don’t have enough to eat.

Aimee enjoys attending events like the WLC Breakfast, Annual WLC Wine Tasting and United Way’s Build-A-Bike. She also hopes to co-chair events once her new business is established. “The WLC has been so kind to me since I joined. They offer many opportunities to get involved and make it easy for you to obtain any information you need,” she said.

Aimee is very eager to make a difference and believes her involvement with United Way’s WLC was an incredible addition to her life.
